The Las Vegas Strip Circuit
A fast, flat street track that runs past the casinos, the Sphere and down the Strip itself — and a city with a Grand Prix story that starts in a car park.

A lap, in plain English
The lap starts by the purpose-built pit building east of the Strip, then threads through a tight, slow opening sequence before opening up past the Sphere. The highlight is the long run down Las Vegas Boulevard, where cars reach some of the highest top speeds of the season. Heavy braking at the end of the straights creates the main overtaking chances, and the final section winds back toward the pits.
Why it's tricky
Cold November nights make it hard to keep tyres in their working temperature range. A smooth public road surface offers little grip early in the week, and the track gets faster each session as rubber goes down. Teams often run low-downforce setups for the straights, which makes the cars twitchy in the slow corners.
The Caesars Palace years (1981–82)
Formula 1 first came to Las Vegas in 1981 on a temporary track laid out in the car park of Caesars Palace. It hosted two championship races — Alan Jones won in 1981, Michele Alboreto in 1982 — and both served as the season finale. The flat, repetitive layout and desert heat were unpopular with drivers and the event didn't last, but it remains a famous oddity in the sport's history.
The return to the Strip (2023–today)
Formula 1 returned in 2023 with a race on the Strip itself, built around a permanent pit and paddock building. The first edition had a rough start — high prices and a loose drain cover that damaged a car in first practice — yet the race turned out to be one of the best of that season. The event has since secured a contract extension through 2027, with county approval for a decade of racing.
